Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous powder is soluble in water, and its solution is mostly neutral, soluble in glycerol but not soluble in ethanol. The anhydrous substance with high purity and fine particles is called Yuanming powder. When exposed to the air, it easily absorbs water and generates sodium sulfate decahydrate, also known as Glauber's salt, which is alkaline. Mainly used in the manufacture of water glass, glass, enamel, paper pulp, refrigeration mixture, detergent, desiccant, dye diluent, analytical chemical reagents, pharmaceuticals, feed, etc. At 241ºC, Yuanming powder will transform into hexagonal crystal.
The main uses of are:
1. In the chemical industry, it is used to manufacture sodium sulfide, sodium silicate water glass and other chemical products.
2. Cooking agent used in the paper industry to produce sulfate pulp.
3. In the glass industry, it can be used as a co-solvent instead of soda ash.
4. Used in the textile industry to prepare vinylon spinning coagulant.
5. Used in non-ferrous metal metallurgy, leather, etc.
6. Used to make sodium sulfide, paper pulp, glass, water glass, and enamel. It is also used as a laxative and an antidote for barium salt poisoning. It is a by-product of from salt and sulfuric acid. In chemical industry, it is used to make sodium sulfide, sodium silicate, etc. Used in laboratories to remove barium salts. Industrially used as a raw material for preparing NaOH and H2SO4, and also used in papermaking, glass, printing and dyeing, synthetic fibers, tanning, etc. In organic synthesis laboratories, Yuanming powder is the most commonly used post-processing desiccant.
7. The hydration product calcium sulfoaluminate is generated faster, thereby accelerating the hydration and hardening speed of cement. The dosage of sodium sulfate is generally 0.5% to 2% of the cement mass, which can increase the early strength of concrete by 50% to 100%. The 28-day strength sometimes increases, sometimes decreases, and the increase range is about 10%, depending on the cement type and curing conditions. It varies with its dosage.
8. Used as analytical reagents, such as dehydrating agents, digestion catalysts for nitrogen determination, and interference inhibitors in atomic absorption spectrometry analysis.
9. It can be used as a buffer in sulfate galvanizing to stabilize the pH value of the plating solution.
